Khwai community area is a private concession adjacent to Northern Moremi Game Reserve and provides a rare experience of a community that lives in harmony with nature and wildlife. This vast area, managed by the Khwai Development Trust, belongs to the local community and they now offer wonderful Botswana safaris in the region.
The area is made up of sweeping grasslands, riparian forests and floodplains. The floodplains are flooded most of the year and there are lagoons covered in blue and white water lilies. The area also has large tracts of Mopane forest. The Khwai Concession is a good area to see Roan and Sable Antelope which are relatively rare. Huge herds of migrating elephants enjoy the Mopane woodlands of the interior of the Khwai area. Stable populations of large predators such as Lion, Spotted Hyena, Leopard and African Wild Dogs are found here.
